Drop the trailing “I” from “whenI”?

It won’t be attributed to your company but the content could come up in other peoples searches that are related to your meeting’s topics.

Comment on The Great British Worker Shortage: Flogging a Dead Horse by Jeff Grigg/2024/02/10/the-great-british-worker-shortage-flogging-a-dead-horse/#comment-130811Sat, 10 Feb 2024 16:40:48 +0000/?p=11854#comment-130811Instead of focusing entirely on motivations and feelings, how about recognizing that a number of workers do recognize that breathing shared air in poorly ventilated office spaces is a direct threat to their health and life, and that of their loved ones? Like, how much of “a matter of opinion a personal private beliefs” is it when there’s a wide-spread obvious worker shortage, primarily due to workers becoming disabled and/or dying?

And “There’s nothing we can do about it. We’re complying with all the [mostly non-existent] government mandates.” is hardly anything more than a feeble excuse. Along with “We have hand cleaner! We clean surfaces several times a day! Wash your hands!” when the danger is mostly from *airborne* viruses.

How about improved ventilation and air circulation? How about UV-light to directly clean the air? And how about embracing effective tools and processes for remote work? “Compromising” on “X days out of 5 in the office” is a complete failure to even recognize any of the real issues, let alone address any of them.

Comment on Found Money or Found Ideas: Which Gets More Takers? by allygill/2024/01/27/found-money-or-found-ideas-which-gets-more-takers/#comment-130802Sat, 27 Jan 2024 14:05:30 +0000/?p=11782#comment-130802The best thing since I retired from corporate work and focused on my volunteer role as a charity chair where I’m also effectively the CEO is that I can finally start using all the different ideas I’ve picked up over the last 40 years.

Most of our volunteers are retired ladies who have had no exposure to these ideas so are prepared to have open minds. So far, my success rate is 100%. Every different way of thinking has been warmly embraced, and I hope in part because I explain them in simple non technical terms and focus expressly on our specific context. I suspect it is more because they are smart people who want us to succeed and if they see something different that might help that, they are prepared to give it a chance.

Needs are being met through observation, discussion, and application of common sense. Goodness me, it is so refreshing (and still a bit scary!)

Comment on Management Violence: The Last Refuge of the Incompetent by flowchainsensei/2024/01/15/management-violence-the-last-refuge-of-the-incompetent/#comment-130790Wed, 17 Jan 2024 10:20:05 +0000/?p=11711#comment-130790In reply to The System might have got you but it won’t catch me.

IME management factories are, in turn, a product of The Domination System and its bedfellow, the Myth Of Redemptive Violence (Cf. Walter Wink).

This feels so true. Manager violence is an expression of frustration, incompetence, fear and inadequacy. At times normalised, at others celebrated and worse sometimes forgiven as ‘part of the job’ or down to ‘pressure’.

Well what is the system that creates that pressure? The management factory!

But if you can convince people that such a mechanism exists, you can get them to distrust their own intuition.

Eumemics is just such a fantasy. The real manipulation is making people believe that it’s real.
