  1. I believe it is neither the former nor the latter, for most of us it is both. It’s a dialectical combination of autopilot for most things and engaging a more conscious approach when we have to deal with new and unexpected situations. And a possible reason for that is that trusting our assumptions and beliefs is an economical way of approaching most decisions in life. It would not be optimal to go through life without any autopilot or never discovering new perspectives, specifically after we realize our assumptions are in conflict with our experiences. The skill I am trying to develop in myself and my team is being open to those realizations, even seeking them before taking big decisions. Oh man, it is difficult.
