Drop-In Experiment Terminated

Drop-In Experiment Terminated

Despite early uptake, the Think Different drop-in experiment is now terminated (a failed experiment, with uptake tailed off to zero). I guess folks don’t have a need to seek experience or help with their challenges these days. Or maybe it’s just me.

I’m with Voltaire’s rhetorical question:

“Is there anyone so wise as to learn by the experience of others?”

  1. We’ve had the same experience in the workplace – we had various drop-ins and most started well and lost traction very quickly. So even when you’re dealing with people “you” know and who know “you”, there is a lack of engagement. When dealing with “strangers” I suspect it’s even more true.

    • Hi Ally, thanks for replying. Is the fate of drop-ins a sign of the (miserable levels) of engagement with work nowadays?

      • It certainly is for the permies where I’m working. The latest ‘transformation’ started over 8 months ago and so far all they have announced is the new org structure and the top leadership positions. The staff will find out their fate sometime after the New Year (originally planned for the first week of October). I suspect I shall find out mine on Friday and I suspect I shall be cancelled!

The irony is that the new IT motto is Focus, Agility and Speed in IT (FAST). When challenged that the transformation was hardly any of these the CIO got quite upset!
